MWCC has joined the “Alliance against absenteeism” initiative of our collaborating entity, Fundación Cotec. Normally we receive an invitation to an in-person event and without thinking much we register. We leave our data, we confirm interest in attending, directly or we do not reserve a seat. Then we forget. The event arrives and we don’t show up. And we do not apologize, neither a priori nor a posteriori. We have all been absenteeists at some point.
The absentee, in general, does not feel that he did something wrong, that he was rude, that he helped fill the capacity and therefore left another person with more interest unable to attend, that he left an empty chair that spoiled the event, that cost money, which altered sustainability…
On the contrary! He seems to have spread the feeling that signing up is enough, that appearing on the registration list is a gesture of courtesy, that expressing your intention to attend is worth as much as attending.
