MWCC participates in the Third Festival Against Loneliness and Child Suicide Prevention
MWCC participated in a necessary and just cause: against loneliness and the prevention of child suicide.
An initiative of the ADELIAS FOUNDATION, together with CyberLideria and the Padre Ángel Social Foundation, to alleviate unwanted loneliness.
This third edition focused on the fight against loneliness and the prevention of youth suicide.
The aim of the charity gala is to raise awareness and tackle head-on issues that affect thousands of young people, such as unwanted loneliness, bullying, self-harm, addiction and emotional disorders.
It was a charity event whose aim was to transform suffering into support, prevention and hope.
In the words of MWCC president David García Núñez, ‘when society gets involved, lives change’.
The data is overwhelming. According to mortality data for the current millennium from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), there has been a significant increase in the number of suicides among adolescents of 32.35% between 2019 and 2021 (from 34 to 45 deaths), although this increase cannot be explained by the onset of the pandemic.
The upward trend in suicide mortality in Spain since 2018 also appears to be the trend among adolescents.
The age-standardised suicide mortality rate among young adults (aged 24-29) in 2021 was 5.75 per 100,000 inhabitants. In terms of gender distribution, 81.5% of the cases recorded in this age group were men. Taking nationality into account, 78.6% of suicides were committed by people born in Spain.
At MWCC, we must put all our efforts into preventing child suicide.
