MWCC has become the first Spanish entity to participate in the “Academic Advisory Panel” of the Global infrastructure Hub (GI Hub), an organization created by the G20. The participation of MWCC has materialized through Armando Ortuño, Technical Director of MWCC and Professor at the University of Alicante.

The function of this Panel is for academics to share advice, input, and feedback on GI Hub initiatives. Recent forums have focused on environmental, social, and governance investment strategy and circular economy.

With this important and vital advance, MWCC continues to grow and develop its internationalization, thus enhancing the brand image of the city, the country as well as its 140 associated public and private entities.

The GI Hub is a non-profit organization formed by the G20 that promotes the development of sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructures. The GI-HUB collaborates with both the public and private sectors, acting as a knowledge exchange center to produce data, tools and programs for decision-making, favoring infrastructures that generate positive social impacts.

The GI Hub organizes the InfraChallenge contest with the aim of promoting technological start-ups, among which several Spanish companies have been awarded.

The G20 was established in 1999 as a forum for the Governments and Central Banks of the 19 largest national economies and the European Union to discuss policies related to the promotion of international financial stability and the coordination of economic policy. Since 2008, the G20 has increased its membership to include Heads of Government or State, finance ministers and foreign ministers, and its agenda has expanded to cover international issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one organization. Infrastructure has been a priority for several G20 presidencies so, in 2014, the G20 decided to create the GI-Hub, a non-profit entity that promotes sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructure. Spain is part of the G20 as a permanent guest.
