MWCC reinforces its commitment to inclusive professional and sporting environments

On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia in Sport, MWCC reaffirms its commitment to building inclusive, diverse, and safe environments, including in the sports and business sectors linked to sports.

This date commemorates the birth of Justin Fashanu, the first professional footballer to publicly come out as gay. His story set a precedent for LGBTI visibility within professional sports and highlighted the structural barriers that many people have historically faced in living their identity freely.

Under the theme “Sport and Diversity: Fighting Hard,” MWCC joins the discussion on the need to promote a culture of respect that transcends competition and is integrated into institutional and organizational values.

The recent case of professional footballer Borja Iglesias—who was attacked for painting his nails as a gesture of support for diversity—demonstrates that resistance persists against expressions that challenge traditional gender stereotypes. His resolve transformed this gesture into a symbol of standing up against hatred and intolerance.

At MWCC, we understand that sport is not merely a competitive activity, but a space of cultural, social, and economic influence. Therefore, a commitment to diversity must be integrated into the governance, communication, and talent management of organizations linked to the sports ecosystem.

As a platform that promotes Madrid's international positioning as a strategic capital in various sectors, MWCC fosters values of innovation, excellence, and social responsibility. Diversity and inclusion are essential components of this contemporary leadership model.

Promoting safe spaces in sport and in organizations involves:

Promoting training and awareness in diversity.

Promoting clear policies of respect and non-discrimination.

Highlighting role models who contribute to normalizing plurality.

Integrating diversity as a cross-cutting theme in institutional strategy.

Developing inclusive environments is not only an ethical matter, but also a strategic one: organizations that integrate diversity into their corporate culture strengthen their reputation, ability to attract talent, and long-term sustainability.

We reaffirm our commitment to actively contribute to a professional and sporting ecosystem where diversity is not only tolerated, but defended with conviction.
