MWCC is the first and only Spanish entity to participate in the international Best Cities 2026 report.

MWCC is the first and only Spanish entity to participate in the international Best Cities 2026 report, in which Madrid has been recognised as the fifth best city in the world according to the prestigious Best Cities 2026: The 100 Global Cities report, ranking behind London, New York, Paris and Tokyo. This recognition places the Spanish capital among the most innovative, sustainable and culturally attractive cities globally. MWCC was the only Spanish entity to participate in this international report.

Sustainable investment and urban development

The report highlights Madrid's commitment to sustainability, its management of urban and natural resources, and its vision that ‘everything old can become new’. Projects such as the Bosque Metropolitano, the largest metropolitan forestation initiative in Europe, are moving forward to create a 47-mile ring of trees that will transform the city's climate and identity. With more than 450,000 trees and a growing network of cycle lanes, Madrid is proving that urban reforestation can be combined with state-of-the-art transport infrastructure, including one of the largest fleets of electric buses in Europe.

Urban transformation: Madrid Nuevo Norte

Madrid Nuevo Norte, with 570 acres of former railway land, will be the second largest urban regeneration project in Europe. The initiative will include 10,500 new homes, millions of square metres of office space and a renovated Chamartín interchange, consolidating Madrid as a strategic continental transport hub and attracting global technology and financial companies.

Culture and heritage

The capital continues to strengthen its cultural offering. The Royal Collections Gallery, inaugurated in 2023, has established itself as a magnet for international visitors, contributing to the city's #8 ranking for museums. In addition, neighbourhood cultural spaces such as Cines Embajadores, CaixaForum, Matadero Madrid and the future cultural hub of Carabanchel reflect a dynamic and accessible arts scene.

Hospitality and tourism

Madrid's hotel sector has responded to these trends with the opening of boutique hotels on Gran Vía and new establishments in Lavapiés and Chamberí. The expansion of Barajas Airport, with an investment of $2.8 billion, will strengthen global connectivity and the flow of visitors to the city, contributing to its appeal as an international destination.

Madrid is consolidating its position as a city that combines urban innovation, sustainability, culture and economic opportunities. MWCC celebrates this recognition and reaffirms its commitment to building the future of Madrid together with everyone.
