The construction sector is one of the sectors with the greatest environmental impact globally, being responsible for a high consumption of natural resources and a significant generation of waste. Faced with this challenge, sustainable and circular construction is a key solution, promoting the efficient use of materials, reuse, energy efficiency and emissions reduction.

Adopting these practices not only improves the competitiveness of the sector and enables compliance with new regulations, but also contributes directly to mitigating climate change.

In this context, the Eurecat Technology Centre and the Eurochile Business Foundation are executing the project ‘Articulation and development of sustainable business models led by MSMEs for the construction sector’, an initiative financed by the European Union's AL-INVEST Green fund, which aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises and organisations in the sector in incorporating sustainable approaches into their business models.

As part of these project actions, the online mentoring ‘Circular Economy in Construction: Learnings and perspectives from Spain for Chile’ was held, an instance that sought to strengthen the links between Chilean and European MSMEs, promoting the exchange of successful experiences and the exploration of opportunities for collaboration.

Gabriel Cuervo Leicach, Innovation Director of Sacyr, a global infrastructure and services company with a strong focus on sustainability, and David García Núñez, President of Madrid World Capital (MWCC), an initiative that promotes Madrid as an international benchmark in innovation and development in construction, participated in the activity. David is also Director of Communications and Marketing for the FCC Group, a leading conglomerate in environmental services, water, infrastructure development and associated products and real estate management, with a presence in more than 25 countries.
Both shared valuable experiences and knowledge about the circular economy in the construction sector. In short, instances such as this are key to promoting more sustainable construction, by facilitating the exchange of experiences, knowledge and opportunities for international collaboration. In this process, the Eurochile Business Foundation fulfils its main function, which is to connect Chilean MSMEs with European counterparts, promoting innovation, circular economy and the development of more sustainable business models.
