Spanish construction companies maintain their international leadership according to the ENR 2024 ranking

The latest issue of the American magazine Engineering News-Record (ENR) has published its ranking of the world's top 250 contractors in 2024, in which Spanish construction companies are once again among the most important on the international scene.

According to international turnover data, nine Spanish groups are among the world's 250 largest contractors, eight of which are members of SEOPAN: ACS/Hochtief, Ferrovial, Acciona, FCC, Sacyr, OHLA, COMSA Corporación and Grupo SANJOSE. All of them are among the top 161 in the ranking.

In terms of total turnover, six Spanish contractors are among the top 250, with the leading Spanish group ranking ninth globally, behind only eight Chinese groups and one French group.

Growth of Spain's share of the international market

The sector's total international turnover reached $501.987 billion in 2024, compared to $499.621 billion in 2023. Of this figure, Spanish groups account for 13.3% of the world total ($66.5143 billion), an increase from the 11.9% achieved in 2023.

Spain thus maintains its third position worldwide, behind only China (25.4%) and France (16.3%).

Regional leadership of Spanish contractors

By region, Spanish companies are consolidating and strengthening their leadership in several key markets:

Oceania/Australia: first position with 41.4% of the market.

United States: first position with 38.7%.

Latin America and the Caribbean: second position with 20.7%, behind only Chinese groups (25.5%).

Europe: third position with 8.5%, behind France (37%) and China (9.2%).

Regional context

Chinese groups, with 76 companies in the ranking (5 fewer than in 2023), maintain their strength in Africa (61.6%) and are advancing in the Middle East (27.1%) and Latin America (25.5%).

For their part, French groups, with 4 companies in the ranking, are strengthening their leadership in Europe (37%) and increasing their share in Latin America and the Caribbean (17.9%, compared to 16.5% in 2023).

Spanish construction companies are not only maintaining their international presence, but also increasing their share in strategic markets, consolidating their position as a global benchmark in the construction and infrastructure sector.
